El Sol opened its doors in 1979 in the N.3 of calle Jardines, next to Gran Vía, and quickly found its place at the epicenter of the cultural rebellion of the 80's. During those unforgettable years, El Sol became a meeting point for all the arts: representatives of the cinema, painting, design, fashion, literature and music found among the warmth of their neons the right place to create La Movida Madrileña.

 

Thirty-eight years later, after having experienced several musical and social revolutions, having overcome the worst of the economic crises and with almost 7000 performances performed between its walls, this mythical enclosure remains unharmed with its spiral staircase, its red curtains and that creative and sparkling environment that announces that, although the years pass, the music evolves, the artists come and go, the audience and their tastes change, what does not change is the excitement to see your favorite artist from less than one meter away; That incomparable emotion can only be felt in small stages, like that of the Sala El Sol.

 

A sentiment that also has its recognition: that of the public, the musicians, the record companies - two UFI awards, musical promoters-APM 2013 prize- and recognition as Cultural Heritage of Madrid, granted by the City Council of the Capital.

 

For many more years El Sol will light the night of Madrid and the best music will always be playing on its legendary stage.
